The Tennessean: Fabulous Friends Celebrate Africa

Fabulous Friends for Africa staged its seventh annual gala recently, drawing more than 500 guests and raising $80,000 for African Leadership, a nonprofit that supports orphans, purchases study Bibles and trains church leaders throughout Africa.

Held in Liberty Hall in The Factory at Franklin, the evening featured cocktails, a buffet dinner, dancing and a huge silent auction. The event came into being when a group of friends who were celebrating birthdays opted to have a party to raise funds as well as fun.

This year’s edition showcased a truly fabulous dinner with the buffet dotted by gorgeous flowers and a huge cake in the shape of Africa topped by strawberries. Assisting with the dinner was Jackie Gregory of Simply Living Life.

The fabulous friends who host this fab annual party include Jane Carroll, Betty Cope, Cilla Crane, Susan Davis, Laura Eddleman, Martha Greenwood, Julie Greenwood, Julie Hawley, Terrie Hill, Sally McCorkle and Beverly Spellings.

Kudos to these women who turn birthday celebrations into aid for a worthy cause. To date the group has raised more than $455,000. Fabulous, indeed.
